About SCCP-L.E.N.S.

Honoring our . . .

History – It’s ironic that our legacy comes from a slave girl, Sallie, born in Warren County, North Carolina, who was a house servant on Clearview Plantation. In 1868, the plantation owner’s son willed Sallie 400 acres of land upon his death. This land became generational wealth as she divided this property among her seven children and a local church, which is still inexistence today and her place of internment. But, the Slave Cemetery on Clearview Plantation, where her parents and many other enslaved ancestors were buried, whispers out, not only our heritage, but the inspiration to
protect that heritage.

Legacy – Sallie’s legacy lives in us --her descendants--as we are determined to keep the history of the Slave Cemetery “alive.” Each of us has a rich heritage and we feel fortunate to know ours.  Tree loggers removed the foliage.  And, time and weather have eliminated most of the physical markers of these sacred grounds. Our oral traditions taught us that the Slave Cemetery holds not just Sallie's family, but hundreds of slave remains from the adjacent Clearview Plantation. The Warren County Heritage Book Volume I dated 2002 confirmed this truth. This legacy has given the descendants of the enslaved ancestors buried in the Slave Cemetery at Clearview Plantation hope and a voice to document our rich heritage.

Future – Our history and legacy are the building blocks for our future. In
honor of our enslaved ancestors who are still at Clearview Plantation, we seek to illuminate their lives through today and tomorrow’s generations.

Our goals are: to preserve the cemetery, make every good effort to preserve the documentation to cultivate an awareness of the Slave Cemetery, educate and empower the world as well as descendants, and lay a clear path forward, which will help foster a culture of legacy.

Let freedom ring from the foundation of our ancestors because they are free at last!
